The Arts and Crafts Research Institute is the site of a charming architectural masterpiece, a mansion built during the French Concession, hidden away… though easily discovered. Each of its three floors have a different facet of art and all filled with items for sale…it is like being in an amazing gigantic gift shop with traditional Chinese art in a gorgeous historic building. There are stained glass windows, elegant wooden staircases and artists-at-work. Needlepointing , lacquer items, silk embroidery, paintings, bamboo and jade carvings. There are many Chinese artists at work and some artistic demonstrations on site though not once piece of art having significance for anything Jewish. And this is on the Jewish Tour of Shanghai as it was a former Jewish home?
